CARTIER- THE PROPOSAL

Have you ever been in love with someone and ever felt that you want to spend your lives with them? If you are a girl I am sure you must have imagined your boyfriends proposing to you for like 1000 times in 1000 ways. The same applied to me as well and when I watched this Cartier- the proposal short film, I felt so touched and I wished the same for me. This short film has three different love stories set up in Paris which ends up in a proposal. The iconic Jewellery box by cartier appears at the Musée Rodin, in the lift at the Philharmonic Concert Hall, and at Charles de Gaulle Airport. The movie is a six minute romantic mixture which was nominated for oscars in the year 2006.

The movie begins with the couple in the car where the girl is leaving the city, who looks at her husband after seeing another couple kiss and holds his hand.. At the same time a guy is seen running who is late to meet his girlfriend on her birthday. At the airport- The girl keeps asking the guy if it’s going to be easy to stay away and assures her that he will call her day and night and even in between to show her the love. While he hugs her, he removes her passport. At the counter when asked for it, she panics and the husband helps her look for it in her bag. While doing so he gives her the cartier ring box and she is surprised. He tells her that he loves her so much that he could marry her again

Elevator- The guy in this is late and follows his girlfriend by running on the staircase just to reach her at every floor. At the last floor he tells her he loves her with Cartier ring box and the girl is astonished after seeing this sight.

At the museum- This couple roams around and guy suddenly goes away and sends the girl a picture of a sculpture. She follows it and finally she sees a Cartier ring in the hands of the sculpture. The guy comes from behind, takes the ring and proposes her.

I believe it’s a challenge when such brands play around with such stories but I think Cartier has been able to convey the message really well and it touches the heart of many couples like that. Not only that every time you look at the ring, you will get so attracted to it and you will want to have it. Well one of the best ways to do marketing of the brand is to advertise the ads in an impactful manner which I think Cartier does justice to.

FINAL DESTINATION 3- REVIEW

finaldestination3

http://www.belgianfilm freak.wordpress.com

Final Destination 3 is a 2006 American horror film, and the third installment of the Final Destination franchise. It was directed and co-written by James Wong, who also directed and co-wrote the first film, and was produced by Wong and his writing partner Glen Morgan, with franchise producers Craig Perry and Warren Zide. Released on February 10, 2006, the film performed well at the box office and gained a mixed reception from critics.

Final Destination 3 was originally considered as the final part of the trilogy and was in talks since the release of Final Destination 2, according to the interviews of the last-mentioned film’s makers. The idea of death omens appearing in photographs was taken from the 1976 horror classic The Omen, in which characters are impaled and decapitated.

This movie is based on Wendy Christensen’s premonitions that She perceives what worse is going to happen which ultimately leads to death of everyone close to her. The first instance happens when she visits an amusement park with her friends and she perceives that the roller coster’s seat harnesses and it will fail, killing everyone. Inspite of her telling her friends about it, they think she is mocking. But that’s the truth and everyone on board dies. Not just one time, but every time Wendy is suspicious the people in the picture die.

What really interested me in this movie is how every time she thought of something, whoever is going to die amongst the characters, was quite unpredictable. Final destination 3 is a movie made with proper technical skills and with the help of Cinematographer Robert McLachlan, the movie executed the creepy site quite well. The rides in the movie look fatal which is scary as hell. But when compared to the first two FD movies, its a little disappointing. The movie doesn’t fit that well according to the story line and there is no change in the age group of the people here. It just looks a teenage horror movie which was different in the FD 2. Also talking about the script of the movie it’s very hard for the audience to get involved in it as the characters act too cold at times and is expression less (especially Wendy). Overall I felt the movie was yes terrifying but wasn’t able to convince the audience well.

Twilight Saga Breaking dawn Part 2- Review

20120821-092602.jpg

A fiction story is most liked by the audiences and what interests one more if the movie can catch the grip and entertain a person throughout. This is one thing I noticed in the entire twilight saga breaking dawn part 2.

The Twilight saga breaking dawn part 2 is a romantic film directed by Bill Condon and is based on the novel by Stephanie Meyer. The movie forms the final installment to the Twilight saga series. All three main cast members, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprise their roles, with Mackenzie Foy portraying Renesmee Cullen.

Talking about the beginning, Its a love story between a human and vampire. The actress Kristen Stewart and Robert pattinson fall in love but as both of them are a different specie altogether it gets difficult for them to survive together in every part. The movie began with Twilight as the first part which extended in a saga till breaking Dawn part 2.

twilight-breaking-dawn-part-2-robert-pattinson-kristen-stewart.jpg

The twilight saga played really well throughout with the effects one should get to make a movie a look horrifying. Looking at it from a human’s perspective one understands what it is to lose yourself and become someone else.

The story acknowledges the nature of a vampire. There is a scene where Bella is disguised in her vampire attire with contact lenses. In this part of the film, the lovers have a baby girl Renesemee, weirder and scarier looking vampire but she is immortal. The house is in the hills which is empty and not really filled. Now a isolated house does look like that of a weird family. Taylor Lautner in the movie imprints on the child. The family yet again has to fight until the end just to keep the member of the family safe. The Volturi guesses the mess in the Cullen family and decides to visit them again. As Alice can see the future, knowing that she would need many people to fight against them, all of them form a troupe and approach other vampire families for help.

The final shot of the movie is shot at America Northwest at the time of snowfall. The scenes here  are shot so well that it does intrigue the audience and one definitely would want to know what aheads in the film. There is a confrontation which of course is a fight. There is a classic ending to this as the evil is dead and just like any other movie, the entire Cullen family now lives peacefully. This one scene has the apt sound effects and every little element that makes the movie more interesting. It feels good to have seen this movie finally rounded off. Had it been extended it would have lost the charm of it. Also the unrealistic aspect of the existence of a vampire and turning it into a whole story is really depicted well in almost all the parts of this saga.

Psycho review for Cinematography

The master of film making, Alfred Hitchcock proved himself a genius, yet again after the release of his film Psycho. First screening being done in New York this movie rocked at the box office and earned money more than the making.  The suspense this movie carries throughout the end of it. It is marvelous and you will be shocked to know how it ends. This movie broke all the barriers for the upcoming films in Hollywood wherein the outlook towards the society changed. The movie went through much criticism but yet was a block buster at the box office.

Psycho is a movie of 1960 starring Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, John Gavin, and Janet Leigh. Psycho is thriller movie and would definitely thrill you in every manner. The sound of this movie is so engrossing that it builds up more curiosity with each scene that comes.  In the movie, Marion Crane escapes with the money she steals from the employer. She moves ahead with it in her car. After reaching a motel where Norman Bates is seen, the entire movie takes a toll.

As the movie begins, the entire city is captured along with the name Phoenix, Arizona and the date. It’s a wide shot which later on zooms inside a room where a couple is making love which gives a feeling of spying and due to sound excites the audience more. The focus is mainly on Marion. The entire room is shown initially and then the attention goes to the character. The shots being medium shots manage to express the message to the audience. In the 1960’s, Americans found it a little vague to sleep with someone before marriage but the beginning of the movie has a complete different perception.

mangehsamita.blogspot.com

Next, once she steals the money and goes back to her apartment to pack, the camera zooms in and takes the close up of the money and bag with intriguing music. The music brings in a lot of tension and we would want to know what’s next every single minute. Her face in the entire shot shows a clueless expression in the end she decides to take the money and run away. While she drives the car, she is thinking continuously without blinking her eyes. This shot grabs her expression and is a medium close up shot. As she moves ahead, a wide shot is seen with the city and her car. Her face comes into the picture again having a close up.

She is found suspicious in between which leads her to exchange her car so that she isn’t found. She forgets her way and ends up at Bates Motel. Norman and Marion have a conversation and once she leaves for her room, Norman looks at her through the peephole and extreme close up shot is taken of his eyes while he is looking at her.

The shower scene is the vital part of the film wherein the suspense of the movie is revealed. This shot was taken for continuously three days from 77 cameras shooting from different angles. The shots are medium shots but mostly are extreme close ups. The zoomed in shots give a more catchy effect than the wide angle. In the end, the extreme close up of the hole is taken which leads to the eyes and then the face of Marion. The sound while the murder happens, the blood dropping, killing with the knife every single thing has added to this scene. It clearly shows violence and destruction.

The final scene is where Norman is sent behind the bar for all the murders that took place shows how he has grasped his mother’s personality. After the murder, he kept the dead body with him to feel that she was still alive.  The shots are mid shots which keep zooming onto his face. His changing expressions according to his thought define the scene well. The voice in the head says “She won’t even harm a fly” that’s when a high angle of shot is taken of the fly.

The movie ends with the car coming out of trash which is a wide shot.

Psycho changed outlook of how people and society observes this kind of behavior. In spite of facing so many controversies the movie overcame all the negativities, was chosen for the academy awards and the movie won too.

Modern times- Production Design

If your day hasn’t started well and you are feeling blue at this hour, Modern times is a movie for you. Modern times is an old movie directed by our favorite comedian Charlie Chaplin. The surprising part is the movie is directed, produced, written and enacted by Charlie Chaplin. Modern times is a movie of 1936. A comedy filled entertainment movie which has just actions and no sound. The character of little tramp in the movie is always troubled with his job. He is a factory worker and while at work he is troubled due to the machinery that come for a test. Saying that it is practical, it still turns out to be something else. Due to this, Little tramp faces a nervous breakdown. He is sent to the hospital and with each day he keeps facing problems till he meets Gamin. Gamin and Chaplin escape from the jail and end up at  a place. Inspite of facing so many tragedies, in the end Chaplin convinces Gamin and makes her smile by saying “Buck up never say die. We will get along” Chaplin struggles to settle in this modern industrialization but he fails and many accidents keep happening.

The movie begins herds of sheeps running and at the same time people going to work depicting how they all have become slaves of these machineries. The production and set looks complicated but all of this isn’t real and its made up. If movie had the noise it would lose the charm and hence chaplin decided to make it a silent comedy film. The beginning shows the factory set up and how the machineries work. The funniest scene is when another set of machine is tested on Chaplin. As it’s a mid shot, every single thing is visible. The parts are purposely kept on a little more speed duration that it appears quick so that it adds to the element of it being fun.

Gamin in her part is seen hungry and she cuts bananas to feed her family. The set of her house shows she belongs to lower class and doesn’t have money. The house, her clothes everything around aligns with the scenes. After the bail, Chaplin sits beside a lady who looks sophisticated. Every little aspect her cat, costume specs shows her attitude. Chaplin gets a new job later on where again due to mishaps he is fired. The movie is black and white yet everything is clear. His new work is of labor, in the background there is a huge boat and wooden sticks around. When chaplin gets a job at a store, he locks in the manager. He takes gamin with her. Behind you will notice the entire set up of things to eat and drink. There is a moving staircase long side. Up on the fourth floor is a toy store with tons of toys.

Yet again he arrives to the jail and after his bail, Gamin asks him to work. They both end up working in a restaurant. The restaurant has a middle centre where Charlie performs and on both the sides there are tables and behind there is a band playing. The top part has small chandeliers hanging. He performs and everyone present is impressed. The final scene shows them being together and walking on a silent road. The entire movie is shot without dialogues even then the  has reached hearts of many people. Eyes filled with joy by tramp.

Fashion and Art of Renaissance

The new era of clothing began with renaissance period. This was the beginning of the heavy type of clothing. Women had to suffer a lot while dressing themselves. Italy followed medieval clothing and England, France as well. Germany was one of those countries that ardently followed this period with heavy padding in clothes. In 1490, the fashion moved beyond and ventured into a new exploration. The clothing of this era had excessive clothing, padded and full sleeves, body hugging corsets etc. The colors of this period were mainly darker ones.

Men’s clothing

Men wore caps which were broad and were larger than the size of the head. Jerkins of men were usually sleeveless. They were sometimes turtle neck as well. Upper hose are stocking that start from the thighs and extend till the waist. The nether hose were meant to cover the lower part of the leg. The cod piece was to cover the genitals of men which was made of velvet material. It was tied or buckled. A simar is a robe which is in shape. This robe is tied at the waist by a scarf. The shirt had puffing that made the garment louder.  The pants were loose and were tied on the waist region. Also the pants had no zippers. The materials used were cotton, linen, wool etc. Upper classes mostly used leather, satin and velvet. The men kept the hair short either straight or curled. They accessorized more with their hats which were available in variety. The boots of renaissance era were short or tall that reached till the knees.

Women’s clothing

The headdress of women covered the front and back of the head entirely. The kennel was a stiff material that was pinned at the back. The veil usually was left loose only. This covered their hair entirely.  The sleeves were padded and looked balloon shaped at the shoulders. Sometimes the sleeves were lose at the to which packed the wrist. The clothing of women was excessive. It was too heavy for everyone. The dresses were often long and had padded sleeves. The sleeves could be removed and were at times gifted by the husband to the wife. They accessorized themselves with jewelery and their dresses were embroidered. The skirts were worn over shifts which gave the skirt a balloon look. Sometimes it became so heavy for a women that she couldn’t sit and the maid helped at times to undress. The bodice or the corsets were worn as tops and body hugging. Stomacher was used to cover the frontal area of the bodice. Even the footwear were heels and were called as pianelle that were open flat sandals. This grew more in height during this era.

Art of renaissance

Renaissance was known for its art and this period had paintings, sculpture and literature. When you go through the art of this period you can sense the ancient traditions. Renaissance art is a flow from Europe of medieval times to modern age. The paintings have a deeper meaning and its beauty is visible.  The art also included poetries, drama science etc. Giotto was the first artist artist who started a new style and added it to the renaissance period. Leonardo da vinci  was a painter and the painting of Mona lisa is still mysterious to us. Also his last supper expresses the feelings of the people and Jesus. Michelangelo was the sculptor of this period. he was also known for painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

When I look at this image all I can think of is a quote ‘the chef in you’. The chef coming out of the bottle shows that you don’t need anything else when you have chillies like del monte. The tag line used ‘ you do the cooking and we make it delicious’ makes the strategy of the product very clear to us. Also the silhouette of the bottle with the type face of the brand shows the goal. Kitchen with all the requirements with the smiling face of the man gives a joyous mood. The man who is cooking is the character of the ad. He is cooking that’s plot. He is trying to make his food delicious with the chillies. The guy is cooking in his own kitchen sets the authenticity of it. The chef is the symbol. The ad here shows you don’t have to worry if you are man or a woman with del monte you can always be assured that you are good cook.

Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs

Maslow always wanted to find out what motivates people and to do so he stated a model in 1943 to know what motivates people to achieve certain needs.  We always notice that humans need more and more and so we always progress to our next need.

There are five motivational needs often known as hierarchical levels within a pyramid

Untitled

This model can be divided into basic needs and growth needs.  The basic needs motivate people when they are unmet. For example the more a person starves for food, the more hungry he will become. We shall be able to satisfy our basic needs to progress further. If these needs aren’t met we cannot move ahead. One can reach the highest level of satisfaction if the basic needs are fulfilled. We all have the capacity to reach the level of self actualization but there is always a possibility that our growth will be disrupted due to certain reasons. Maslow noted that not all reach the final stage as our society rewards motivation based on esteem, love and other social needs.

The five stages of the model include;

Biological and physiological needs

Physiological needs are the basic needs of human that need to be met. These are the needs without which we cannot sustain. Air, water and food are our basic needs required for our survival. The ad of smart water serves the same purpose. It shows the basic requirement for water a human needs.

jennifer-aniston-smart-water

Safety needs

We all need security along with us. We all experience stressful and traumatic situations. At such a stage we need an assurance to remain happy and safe.  It is always necessary one meets this need as it is a vital part of our life.

Safety and security needs include

Personal security

Financial security

Health security

Safety  net against accidents and their adverse impacts.

The ad here shows a falling man but there is nothing to worry as life direct will always be there to support him whenever required.

life-insurance-painter-small-38816

Love and belonging

This is one emotion we all need for our survival without which no human can live- love. After physiological and safety needs the third level is the belongingness. Ruining this emotion in childhood can cause severe issues in the growth. According to Maslow, a human needs acceptance in whatever surroundings he/she belongs to be it small or large groups. Humans need to love and be loved as well. When there is absence of this emotion there is loneliness, anxiety and depression. So this level of Maslow’s hierarchy is one of the most important needs to be met.

The ad johnson’s baby. As soon as we look at the ad the first thing that comes to our mind is love and hence the message strategy is clear here.

Fullscreen capture 912010 93238 AM.bmp

Esteem

We all want to be respected by everyone.  Esteem presents a typical human desire to be accepted amongst others. We either have high or low self esteem. People with high self esteem are the ones that are happy with their progress and are respected in their surroundings. People with low self esteem have inferior complex and fear within themselves of not being accepted by others.

Maslow states that he thought the hierarchies are inter related than it being separated. This mean that esteem and the levels are not separated but are related

The ad of dove here shows the message strategy of esteem. The skin of the woman shows the esteem.

Dove campaign for real beauty

Self actualization

This is the last stage of  Maslow’s hierarchy. This levels shows the need of a human to acquire everything that one can. Every human perceives this level differently as well have different needs and desires. For example someone may want to be a good parent while someone else would desire to be good in athletics. To showcase this we express ourselves in various manners. Maslow believed that to reach the level of self actualization it is important to understand the level of need one must not only achieve the prior needs but master them.

The ad nike shows stages of rising of the athlete but in the end he finally he achieves his dream. Hence it clearly shows us self actualization.
